914 face shields for first responders and medical providers
Originally posted February 23, 2021
When COVID-19 hit, our firm and its partners began 3D printing medical face shields to donate to medical providers and the people working on the front lines.
We started with a goal of raising $1,000 and making a few hundred shields in six to eight weeks. Instead, we raised over $7,000 in a few weeks and sent shields to first responders and medical providers in San Diego and as far as Seattle, New York and Tijuana. Thank you to the Rotary Club of San Diego, Rotary International, Club 33 president David Oates, APR, and the Midway Post Office for helping us spread the word and get the shields where they needed to go.
In total we got 914 shields out to first responders and hospitals across the United States and abroad. When the project ended, we donated the remaining $1,500 in the GoFundMe account to Lincoln High School's engineering program in San Diego, along with the $900 printer we used. As a thank-you to everyone who helped, we matched the $1,500 donation and bought another $900 printer for Hoover High School's engineering program, bringing the total raised to almost $10,000.
